On leading up to the release of Watch_Dogs: Legion, Ubisoft staged minor hacks on their other products, defacing their cover art with Watch_Dogs assets in a cheeky bit of cross-promotion. However, it seems that the last laugh is firmly on Ubisoft after the entire source code for Watch_Dogs: Legion, a game that only released a number of days ago has apparently leaked online.
While the games source code doesn’t necessarily mean much to the average layperson, the loss of a projects source code can often be a tremendous blow to developers, with it revealing techniques and proprietary tech to competitors along with hackers and modders alike. Of all the secrets to be found in the source code I can’t help but wonder who will be first to reveal that 60% of the code is from Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

While the theft and distribution of the code is no laughing matter, there has to be seen a strange irony in Ubisoft’s hacktion game falling foul of its own in game mechanic. How Ubisoft respond and what happens with this leak has yet to be seen, although maybe don’t expect any potential DLC Ubisoft had up its sleeve to remain secret for long as the games info is trawled upon for any potential further leaks and reveals.
