In a recent tweet Rockstar games have just announced which games will be backwards compatible for the next-gen consoles and their plans for Red Dead Online and GTA Online accounts when it comes to the switch to new platforms.
Your progress in either Red Dead Online or GTAV will carry over without a hitch, so long as you plan on using the same account you used on the current generation of consoles (and obviously the same platform).
Games currently available to purchase on PS4 (including PS2 titles) will be backwards compatible also, these include:

- Red Dead Redemption 2
- GTA V
- LA Noire (Inc. VR)
- Red Dead Revolver
- The Warriors
- Bully
- Grand Theft Auto III
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
- Manhunt
- Max Payne
Should you be looking to pick up Microsoft’s newest console you’ll find these games available:
- GTA V
- Bully: Scholarship Edition
- Grand Theft Auto IV
- Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Midnight Club: Los Angeles
- Red Dead Redemption
- Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis
And as an added bonus, all PlayStation Plus members will continue to get GTA$1,000,000 (deposited into their in-game Maze Bank account within 72 hours of log-in) each month they play the PlayStation 4 version of GTA Online, up until the launch of the new standalone version of GTA Online on PlayStation 5 in 2021.
